Fatal shooting under investigation



Schenectady police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man. Police said the shooting happened just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Hamilton Street in front of Jerry Burrell Park. When police responded to the scene, they found Xavier McDaniel, Jr. slumped in the passenger seat of his parked car with a gunshot wound to the chest.McDaniel was treated at the scene, then taken to St. Clare's Hospital where he died shortly after arriving. Two men were seen running from the area after the shots were fired. Lt. Pete Frisoni of the Schenectady Police Dept. said, "This is a fairly well-traveled roadway that cuts through Hamilton Hill so we're hoping anyone who had information for us will come forward so that will help us in the investigation and hopefully lead us to the person or persons who were the cause of this." 



No arrests yet in Schenectady shooting

SCHENECTADY - City police said this morning they continue to investigate Tuesday afternoon's shooting death of Xavier McDaniel Jr. in the Hamilton Hill area.

Lt. Peter Frisoni said there were no arrests or suspects as of 7:30 a.m.

McDaniel, 21, was found slumped in the passenger seat of his car with a gunshot wound in his chest at about 1:30 p.m. He was rushed to St. Clare's Hospital where he died, police said. Two males were seen running from the scene.

Xavier M. McDaniel II, 21 of Schenectady died suddenly Tuesday afternoon April 3, 2007 at St Clares Hospital. Born in Schenectady, Xavier was the son of Xavier M. McDaniel Sr. and the late Carol (Logan) Scott Foster. Xavier was a well known basketball player for both Schenectady High School and Berkshire Farms during 2002 -2003. Because of his love of basketball, he was also a coach in the Jerry Burrell Summer League and worked at Carver Community Center with the kids. Xavier is survived by his father Xavier M. McDaniel Sr. and wife Cynthia of Schenectady, his loving children Xavier M. McDaniel III and Xavianna McDaniel both of Schenectady, his companion, Keanna Womack of Schenectady, his grandmother Essie Morris of Texas, five sisters, Chanille Banks, Lucinda Wise, Juaqwaye McDaniel and Gherian Foster all of Schenectady and Kandi Kennedy of Rensselaer, two brothers, Henry Banks of Amsterdam and Josef Jarvis of Schenectady and several cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon April 9, 2007 at 12 noon at Friendship Baptist Church, Union Street, Schenectady with Rev. Van Stuart officiating. Calling hours will be held at the church on Monday from 10 to 12 noon prior to the funeral service. Interment in Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady, NY. FATAL SHOOTING
A shooting in Schenectady has now become a murder investigation. That murder took place in broad daylight, and right next to a park.
Police were called to Hamilton Street just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Officers found 21-year old Xavier McDaniel Junior, slumped over in the passenger seat of a car, in front of Jerry Burrell Park. McDaniel was shot in the chest. He died at Saint Claire's Hospital.
Police now are asking for help in finding two suspects, who were seen running from the area


Man shot and killed while sitting in car 

Police in Schenectady are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man who was killed as he sat in his car Tuesday.

Police say Xavier McDaniel Jr. of Schenectady was shot in the chest Tuesday afternoon. Two men were seen running from the scene after the gunfire.

The shooting occurred in front of a park in a neighborhood that has been the scene of three other shootings in recent days.
